Location: Waco, TX (Hybrid/Flexible)


We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Digital Editor to join our team and support our mission to engage the Baylor alumni community through compelling digital content. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career with a strong foundation in journalism, a passion for digital content creation, and a deep understanding of the Baylor ethos. As the Digital Editor, you will play a crucial role in shaping and executing our content strategy across various digital platforms, particularly through social media channels like TikTok and Instagram Reels. The successful candidate will have a native fluency in digital trends and technologies, paired with a strong journalistic background. The Digital Editor will collaborate closely with the editorial and marketing teams to ensure that our digital presence is fresh, engaging, and aligned with the publication’s values.


This role is perfect for a recent college graduate who thrives on innovation, technology, and problem-solving. You’ll play a key role in shaping our internal culture, streamlining processes, and ensuring the success of our newsroom.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Content Creation & Brainstorming: Assist in the creation of enterprise journalism and marketing products, including articles, posts, and digital content, that appeal to the Baylor alumni community. Participate in content brainstorming sessions to identify and develop compelling story ideas that resonate with the target audience.
  • Social Media Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute social media marketing strategies, with a focus on TikTok and Instagram Reels, to engage target audiences and promote content on various platforms. Create and post regular social media content that aligns with the publication’s voice, mission, and brand.
  • Content Repurposing & Companion Content: Create companion content for articles across all social platforms (e.g., video clips, quotes, graphics) to drive traffic and engagement. Assist with transcribing and formating Classic articles for online publication, ensuring they align with digital best practices.
  • Digital Downloads & Newsletter Formatting: Assist in the creation and formatting of digital resources for our audience. Format and prepare content for newsletters, ensuring consistency and clarity in all digital communication.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and analyze digital content performance using analytics tools. Regularly produce reports on engagement, audience growth, and content performance to inform future strategy and improve reach.
  • Website Design & Publishing: Format articles for web publication, ensuring content is optimized for both desktop and mobile viewing. Experience with WordPress to manage content is recommended. Ensure proper tagging, categorization, and SEO optimization.
  • Brand Development & Community Engagement: Help build and maintain the brand identity of The Baylor Line, ensuring that all digital content aligns with our voice and ethos. Engage with the Baylor community on social media platforms, encouraging interaction, feedback, and sharing.


Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: A minimum of a journalism or equivalent degree. Internship or professional experience in digital content creation, ideally in a journalism, media, or social media-focused role. Previous experience with TikTok, Instagram Reels, or similar platforms is a must.
  • Skills & Competencies: Strong understanding of social media platforms, with the ability to adapt to evolving digital trends. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Proficiency in social media management tools, analytics platforms, and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite). Familiarity with web formatting and content management systems (WordPress or similar). Ability to analyze data and use insights to optimize digital content strategy.
  • Cultural Fit: A deep understanding and appreciation of Baylor’s unique culture, values, and community is essential. Ideal candidates will have a strong connection to Baylor University, with a demonstrated understanding of the university’s ethos and identity.


Anticipated start date: Spring 2025
