POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist at Journey of Faith serves as both a creative project manager and a volunteer team leader, ensuring our church’s message is communicated clearly, consistently, and effectively across all platforms. This role supports our mission—inviting people to follow Jesus and bringing hope to our community—by coordinating the planning, development, and execution of content that helps people connect with the life of the church.
This person excels in organizing creative work, aligning multiple teams and contributors, and stewarding the Journey of Faith brand across all media. In addition to overseeing communications projects, the Communications Specialist recruits, leads, and equips a team of talented volunteers in photography, video, design, and social media—empowering them to use their skills to help tell meaningful stories.
The Communications Specialist serves as a central connector between ministries, creatives, and platforms, ensuring that every message we share is clear, compelling, and mission aligned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creative Project Management
Serve as the primary project manager for all creative communication requests and campaigns.
Coordinate project timelines, contributors, and deliverables across ministries and platforms.
Manage outsourced creatives (graphic designers, videographers, etc.) to ensure projects stay on brand and on schedule.
Maintain an organized system of creative assets, files, and templates.
Volunteer Team Development
Build, lead, and develop volunteer teams in the areas of photography, videography, social media, and graphic design.
Equip volunteers to contribute creatively to church events, content creation, and weekly ministry needs.
Provide training, encouragement, and creative direction to ensure a high standard of quality and consistency.
Social Media & Digital Content
Develop and manage a content calendar for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms.
Coordinate the creation and posting of digital content—leveraging both staff and volunteers.
Support ministry initiatives through strategic campaigns that grow online engagement and foster community connection.
Video Production
Plan and oversee video production for testimonies, event highlights, ministry spotlights, and promotional content.
Coordinate filming schedules, location shoots, and editing timelines.
Collaborate with staff and volunteers to capture and share stories that reflect the mission and culture of Journey of Faith.
Internal and External Communications
Maintain the church website with current events, series updates, and resources.
Manage weekly email communications (e-newsletter) that inform and inspire the congregation.
Work cross-functionally with ministry leaders to develop clear, aligned communication strategies for key church initiatives.
Be a committed follower of Jesus with a lifestyle that demonstrates Christ-centered living (1 Peter 1:15-16, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Philippians 4:8), honesty, confidence, teachability, humility (Philippians 1:5-7), patience and commitment in working with others (James 1-4).
Agree to uphold our staff values (Matthew 22:37, Matthew 5:8, Matthew 28:16-20, Luke 10:41-42, Romans 12:10, 2 Timothy 1:7), and the mission, vision, core values, and faith statements of Journey of Faith.
Strong desire to be a developer of teams and volunteers.
3 years of experience in social media content creation, video production, digital marketing or church communications.
Experience with photography and video.
Experience with social media management tools.
Basic knowledge of Wordpress.
Basic graphic design skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Have a high level of self-awareness and commitment to continual growth.
Possess strong verbal and written communication and administrative skills, with the ability and tact to manage complicated subject matters and a diverse congregation.
Organize and prioritize effectively.
Work well both independently and on a team, in collaboration with all levels of staff.
Show ability to adapt and work efficiently in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment.
Journey of Faith expects its employees to be members or regular attendees of the Church and to comply with its religious beliefs
Experience using MacOS, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other design tools.
