Business Insider is hiring an experienced money correspondent to be a go-to voice on the daily events in markets, investing, finance, and the economy, and analyze what they mean for everyday people.
We're looking for a seasoned reporter with a proven track record of dissecting and explaining developments across the financial landscape. This person will have a pulse on what people from Wall Street execs to stock investors are discussing, and how to make sense of it all.
The centerpiece of the position is the opportunity to launch a new daily money newsletter. It will be focused on delivering — in a relatable and entertaining way — insights on the biggest markets, Wall Street, or economy stories on a given day. The newsletter will be designed to build a loyal audience across channels and on social media.
The money correspondent will also write stories to inform our readers about the novel ways people make and lose money and how that is evolving and being disrupted. This person should have the drive to cover not just financial and economic developments but also the personalities, institutions, and online culture surrounding them.
Our most loyal audience—the ambitious, disruptive, business-obsessed readers—want the inside scoop on what's happening across markets, Wall Street, and the economy and why it matters. This person should be energized to drive coverage by utilizing new storytelling formats to make coverage exciting, dynamic, and accessible to the average person.
The correspondent will be part of our money team, which covers the biggest breaking trends across markets, investing, Wall Street, and the economy. The group focuses on conveying big-picture significance for everyday people in a fun, conversational way that makes our coverage as accessible as possible.
The position is based in our New York City HQ. This role is union-eligible.
Key Responsibilities:
Pitch and report on original stories about major market moves, investment trends, and economic indicators several times a week
Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data, earnings reports, and market forecasts.
Cultivate high-level sources in banking, asset management, government, and trading communities.
Write clear, engaging, and insightful stories that provide both breaking news and deep-dive analysis.
Cover major financial events, earnings calls, and economic policy briefings.
The Ideal Candidate Has:
5 - 10 years of previous experience covering the markets
Demonstrable ability to recognize and clearly articulate big money moves, trends, and developments
Strong writing ability featuring quick, accurate, and conversational copy
A strong network of sources among traders, analysts, and policymakers, and a sharp analytical mindset for distilling complex financial topics into compelling quick hits and longer narratives.
Salary & Benefits
Base salary: $120,000 - $160,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
Unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leave
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
Matched and vested 401k plan
Access to resources for financial planning guidance, family planning services, mental health reachout and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
Additional benefits include commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and more
