If Given A Chance identifies vulnerable, yet resilient, Napa County high school juniors who have faced extraordinary challenges and demonstrated a commitment to continuing their education to better their lives. We help students regain their sense of self-worth, emotional balance, and independent living skills through mentoring, life-skills training, mental health support, and financial assistance. IGAC provides ongoing support as these students navigate the challenges of obtaining a college degree or completing a technical training program so they can achieve job security, experience increased quality of life, and become a contributing member of their community.
Position Overview
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation of the organization, with a major focus on fundraising and development. The executive director oversees the Student Services Manager, who coordinates the student program in collaboration with community partners, and the Development Associate, who completes business and development activities. If Given A Chance is a small, efficiently run organization with a very committed and involved board, and the focus on development will enable the organization to sustain and grow. Our current Executive Director will remain involved to train and orient her replacement.
Key Job Duties
Oversee the daily operations of the organization in collaboration with staff, including ensuring student programs are being implemented as designed, managing fiscal operations in a timely and efficient manner, and implementing all activities related to fundraising and development.
Manage relationships with strategic partners delivering services to IGAC’s students.
Work closely with the Board of Directors and board committees to align staff work with board vision.
Organize monthly Board of Directors’ meetings and oversee committees (e.g. finance, program, development, and marketing/communications).
Work with members of the Executive Committee and finance committee to develop the annual budget.
Create and execute a development strategy and plan with the goal of expanding the donor base and increasing revenue.
Develop and manage relationships, activities, and events with major donors, sponsors, and foundations.
Use research tools and the donor database to identify prospects and track donor philanthropy activities.
Apply for grants from community and regional organizations; submit reports.
Work with contractors to create marketing and communications materials, publish on social media, and host events to increase the visibility of the organization and the success of our students. Publish an annual newsletter.
Oversee the Annual Student Awards Ceremony and Dinner, including securing sponsors, hiring contractors, and recruiting volunteers.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Minimum five years of experience in an executive leadership position, with a focus on fundraising and development
Experience managing youth-related programs and projects
Proven track record of nonprofit fundraising success
Experience in fiscal management, budget development, and operations
Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
Time management and flexibility with job duties
Fundraising software and database tools expertise
Creative self-starter who knows how to seize opportunities and solve problems
