Position Summary: The Career & Job Services/Workforce Development Manager, a supervising professional, directs the daily operation of a library program/unit that spans four branches and has complex, dynamic and interrelated parts, including local, regional, state, and national constituents. The Manager, Career & Job Services/Workforce Development, is responsible for providing quality service by successfully managing staff, maintaining the vibrancy and relevancy of resources and services, and ensuring the department creatively and effectively serves the needs of the community. The Manager, Career & Job Services/Workforce Development directly supervises staff and is responsible for managing relationships with professional-caliber volunteers, instructors, and community service leaders.
Position may require evening, weekend, and out of library hours.
Responsibilities
- Actively and strategically promote library workforce development resources among library staff, local, regional, state, and national officials, and community leaders.
- Create, develop, and maintain opportunities to share resource information via a variety of channels including, but not limited to the Kentucky Career Center, targeted programming, and community presentations.
- Exercises considerable professional judgment and discretion in work processes and community partnerships.
- Moderate, mentor and plan programming for the weekly job search support group meeting for professionals. Coordinate weekly targeted newsletter highlighting celebration stories, upcoming programs, and networking opportunities for community.
- Support, promote and develop unique services offered at each branch including but not limited to corporate hiring events, job fairs, and related programs.
- Educate Public Services staff on the availability of Career and Job Services tools and how to use them effectively with patrons.
- Maintain and update content for the Career & Job Services, NKYAG and Knowledge Base Training Websites.
- Work with Collection Services and Digital Branch staff to ensure that current, relevant materials and resources are available for patrons, including the technology required for service delivery.
- Oversee all facets of grant administration related to workforce development.
- Serve as library contact for community partners in workforce development to stay aware of their resources and missions, avoid duplication of efforts and create symbiotic programs and events.
- Develop strong collaborative relationships with workforce development leaders on regional, state, and national levels.
- Promote the value of using library resources for workforce development activities in the business community.
- Coordinate workforce development activities with the Executive Director on Workforce Investment Board to amplify employment goals of region.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required; MLIS or years professional experience in Workforce Development preferred. 3-5 years in professional work, including administrative and supervisory experience desired.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of and lead Career and Job Services/Workforce Development program design and execution.
- The ability to communicate effectively with staff, customers, community partners, and the administrative team, including excellent public speaking, writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to be a positive motivator and to coach staff to lead, innovate, embrace change, excel in customer experience, and find fun in their profession.
- Must have the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with business, community and government agencies as needed.,
- Able to maintain confidentiality, credibility, and professionalism.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Workspace & online virtual platforms.
- Ability to earn Certified Workforce Development Professional certification.
- Valid driver's license and means of transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and carry 10 ft; must be able to push and/or pull 100 lbs.
