Are you a graphic design student looking to build your portfolio and network while gaining real-world experience in print, social media and web graphics, and video? We’re an in-house communications team looking for a talented and knowledgeable designer with fresh, creative ideas and an excellent eye for detail.

At the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), we serve as stewards of Massachusetts health data, employing multifaceted datasets and cutting-edge analytics to ensure transparency in our health care system. Our work directly impacts the health care system in the state, supporting the development of data-driven policies that aim to improve the quality and equity of care while keeping costs affordable for Massachusetts families.

We foster a flexible, collaborative environment; our hybrid approach allows you to work alongside your colleagues in our vibrant Boston office for at least two designated days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely on others.

Join us at CHIA and be a driving force in health policy impact through compelling visual design! We seek a Graphic Design Intern to concept, design, and produce internal- and external-facing campaigns within our Communications and External Affairs team. This part-time position is 20 hours per week through at least August, and the expected hourly rate is $22 - $27/hour.

As the Graphic Design Intern at CHIA, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Concept and design: Conceptualize and execute newsletter and email templates for external and internal audiences, develop video prototypes to be adapted for future projects, expand upon existing social medial templates, and assist with other projects as needed, such as reports, icons, and data visualizations.

  • Network and be part of a team: Report to the Art Director and have the opportunity to work with other communications professionals and internal clients, attend team meetings, and share expertise.

  • Receive mentoring: Regular coaching sessions with the Art Director and Communications team members to help build your skills.

  • Showcase presentation skills: Present concepts to the Art Director and internal clients and respond to feedback.

Here are the important qualifications we are looking for:

  • Educational foundation: Current student or recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate program in Graphic Design.

  • Strong creative and analytical skills: Understand client input and design briefs, generate multiple concepts, and work with feedback; understanding of branding principles and adherence to brand guidelines a plus.

  • Software: Expertise using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop); experience with video and using After Effects or Premier, Microsoft Office, and tools such as Canva a plus.

  • Effective communication: Oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Portfolio: Please provide link to online portfolio.
