Position Summary
Meals on Wheels Durham (MOWD) seeks a contracted, part-time (20 hours per week) Communications Support Specialist to assist with communications, marketing, and event coordination over a period of approximately 18 weeks, beginning March 17, 2025 and ending July 18, 2025. The first two weeks of the position will be dedicated to training and onboarding the successful candidate.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with experience in digital communications, social media management, and donor and volunteer outreach. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Leadership Team, and other team members to ensure a seamless transition and continuity of messaging.
Hourly pay range is $25.00 to $31.00.

Key Responsibilities
Digital Communications & Content Management
- Manage and update the MOWD website, including volunteer spotlights, campaign pages, and donation webforms.
- Assist in management of a donor management CRM (EveryAction) as needed.
- Create content for, format in an established template, and send the our Durham Dish e-newsletter on the first Friday of each month.
- Draft content for, format in established templates, and send weekly Volunteer News e-newsletter and monthly volunteer birthday emails via EveryAction.
- Maintain MOWD’s social media presence, posting at least twice per week across all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn).
- Develop and execute communications for four key campaigns using existing tools and templates (March for Meals (March 1 - 31) and concurrent Champion’s Week (March 17 - 21), Volunteer Appreciation Month (April 1 - 30), our annual Box Fan Drive (active from the end of April through June), and We Can Wednesday (Wednesday, May 14)).
- Serve as the contact for OneEach and submit and monitor website help desk tickets.
Volunteer & Client Communications
- Coordinate and execute the monthly Volunteer Spotlight feature using an established template, including content creation, posting to social media, and uploading to website.
- Assist with miscellaneous volunteer updates as needed.
- Design and distribute templated client flyers for meal recipients, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
Event & Campaign Support
- Assist with Volunteer Appreciation Month communications and associated event planning.
- Support promotional efforts for spring/summer campaigns and outreach
- Support pre-prepared roll-out for online day of giving, including webpage management, social media, and email campaigns.
General Communications & Operations
- Track and log all in-kind donations and report totals to MOWD bookkeeper at established intervals.
- Issue templated receipts to in-kind donors; April through July are key months.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure branding consistency and messaging alignment.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, nonprofit development, or a related field.
- Proficiency in EveryAction (Bonterra) or other donor management CRM, Canva, website CMS platforms (OneEach preferred), and social media management tools (Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite).
- Website management (Drupal 9 platform experience preferred).
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to craft clear and compelling content.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with event coordination and volunteer management is a plus.
- Familiarity with Meals on Wheels programs or nonprofit organizations preferred.
Work Environment & Schedule:
This contracted position offers a flexible work schedule, with potential for hybrid work options. Some in-person meetings and event support may be required on evenings and weekends. The anticipated duration of employment is 18 weeks, but may be extended based on organizational needs.
