Position Overview/Duties
Specialized Experience for GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes: reviewing environmental and/or military munitions response project documents to ensure compliance with appropriate regulations, guidance, and/or standards and provide training and/or instruction on requirements for environmental or military munitions clean up. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Responsibilities/Duties: S erves as a Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Regulatory Specialist within the Environmental and Munitions Center of Expertise:
- Possesses a thorough understanding of environmental regulations pertaining to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and other major Federal environmental regulations.
- Interprets and communicates Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP) and FUDS guidance, policies, and handbook technical requirements.
- Serves as subject matter expert on environmental regulations pertaining to environmental remediation projects.
- Performs technical review of documents to determine compliance with environmental regulations and provides technical recommendations to achieve compliance with applicable requirements.
- Responds to FUDS technical questions from the field seeking regulatory advice by providing solutions.
- Develops guidance such as fact sheets, newsletter articles, and regulatory summaries to enable others to understand environmental regulations and their applicability and to keep personnel informed of new regulations.
- Supports FUDS projects nationwide regarding policy, program, and processes.
- Prepares and instructs FUDS training courses. Provides annual Quality Assurance reviews of training materials prepared by other instructors.

Travel Requirement: Up to 25% Temporary Duty Travel required.
