The Dakota State University Marketing & Communications team is growing! We are looking for a wordsmith with strong attention to detail to join our team as a Digital Content Writer. This position will serve in an editorial role for DSU, dedicated to developing, editing, and approving, university information before it is made publicly available on the external website, DSU.edu.
Responsibilities:
- To manage, maintain, edit, and distribute content on the university’s website in DSU’s brand voice in a consistent, accurate, timely manner.
- Follow Associated Press (AP Style), basic grammar and punctuation rules, while maintaining DSU’s brand voice as it aligns with the university’s strategic plan and website policy.
- Develop and write copy for various pages on the DSU website.
- Serve as a point of contact when there is a need for new and updated content on a broad range of topics, requiring the position to work with cross-functional teams within the department, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Occasionally, produce other communications including media releases, magazine and newsletter content as time allows.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Mastery of Associated Press style
- Microsoft Office Programs
- Photo editing for web publishing
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Cascade Content Management System (or applicable CMS publishing)
- Working knowledge of a variety of media, including social media, print, and web communications
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently on a wide variety of tasks and prioritize competing demands.
- Exercise good judgement and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred qualifications:
- At least two years editing experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related setting OR
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field completed by date of application.
