Description Of Duties
The Outreach and Education Coordinator will support the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) program as the coordinator of outreach activities, materials, and events. The Coordinator promotes environmental exposure mitigation efforts at the local level and uses data to inform the outreach strategy. This position is under the direct supervision of a Public Health Program Director. The Coordinator communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with the supervisor, Environmental Health Epidemiology Division Director, and other team members within the Division, as well as regional Community Health Organizers and other staff from the Office of Health Equity. The Coordinator shall provide updates to their supervisor about the progression of assigned projects.
This position is funded under the CDC Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) grant (2022-2027).
Duties Of This Position Will Include
- Follow EPHT Communication Plan and communication needs assessment findings to implement environmental public health education and outreach activities. Assist supervisor with revising EPHT Communication Plan in subsequent grant years. Assist with additional needs assessments, as needed.
- Develop and design environmental health educational materials, including but not limited to infographics, articles, trainings, toolkits, social media messages, newsletter articles, reports, and posters, at the request of Environmental Health team members who will provide the general content for these materials. Materials should incorporate adult-learning principles, Culturally Linguistically Appropriate Service (CLAS) standards, and best practices for education and graphic design. Materials should also take into account gaps identified by stakeholders and the public.
- Meet regularly with community groups and identify new partners to engage with, especially those in/serving Environmental Justice (EJ) areas. Meet with Office of Health Equity team members to build off the work of their Community Health Organizer (CHO) program, which has worked to improve social determinants of health/health care through local partnerships.
- Coordinate, host, and/or attend virtual and in-person outreach events (e.g., PA Farm Show, tradeshows, local fairs, school-based events, etc.). A unique set of events (e.g., ice cream social) should also be planned for the annual Tracking Awareness Week. Distribute promotional and evaluation materials.
- Plan outreach activities/materials around environmental health awareness days.
- In collaboration with other Environmental Health staff, plan quarterly virtual Environmental Health Lunch & Learn events internal to DOH. Invite speakers from academia, non-profit organizations, and other government agencies to speak on environmental health topic of interest. Propose topics for future Lunch & Learn events.
- Keep up to date on other states’ EPHT websites and program offerings, including trainings, outreach materials, and success stories. Propose updates to PA’s EPHT website as needed.
- Establish EPHT brand through monitoring and promotion of consistency in external materials.
- Participate in Environmental Health Advisory Group meetings as well as internal EPHT meetings and CDC Program Marketing and Outreach meetings.
Performance Standards
The Department reserves the right to reject or remove any unqualified contract staff if they cannot perform their duties at an acceptable level. The supplier is expected to replace the contract staff ASAP depending on the needs of the Department.
Dress Code
ID must always be worn and must be clearly visible and readable (other than teleworking). The Coordinator shall dress in a manner that conveys professionalism; typically, in a “business casual” style when appearing online or in person.
