About Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run New Orleans is a dynamic, fun, and empowering nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls (3rd-8th grade) recognize their limitless potential and boldly pursue their dreams. Our innovative, evidence-based after-school programs teach girls critical life skills by combining social-emotional learning, mental well-being, and physical activity. Every year, we impact over 4,000 girls across 30-40 schools in New Orleans, inspiring them to be confident, strong, and compassionate individuals.

Position Overview
Are you ready to make a difference? As a Communications Intern at Girls on the Run New Orleans, you'll have a chance to be a part of a mission-driven organization and contribute directly to our visibility and impact. This is a hands-on, dynamic role where you'll work closely with our team to create meaningful content and promote our inspiring programs. We aim to ensure you gain valuable experience and career mentorship, helping you grow as a professional in the communications space. Plus, you’ll have the chance to get involved in some of our most exciting events and community engagement initiatives!
This is an unpaid position but we are happy to work with your university to count this internship for college credit. Hours are flexible but are expected to range from 5-10 hours per week.
What You’ll Do:
Social Media & Content Creation:
- Get Creative: Plan, design, and schedule about three posts per week on Instagram and Facebook that are fun, strategic, and aligned with our mission.
- Own the Calendar: Help create and operate our social media calendar.
- Make it Visual: Use Canva and other tools to create eye-catching visuals that resonate with our audience.
- Live the Moment: Free attendance to exciting local events including our biannual 5K and the renowned Crescent City Classic to capture live content and share amazing moments in real time.
Email & Press Relations:
- Stay Connected: Help draft and distribute our weekly email newsletter to keep our community informed and connected. You’ll learn the ins and outs of email marketing, with templates provided for ease and growth.
- Tell Our Story: Write (templates provided) and distribute press releases that share our mission with the media and beyond.
- Make connections: Keep contact lists updated for local news sources and magazines while building relationships with key communication leaders in New Orleans.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Strong creative content creation, graphic design, and video/photo editing skills.
- Experience managing social media accounts and digital communications channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok is a bonus!).
- Skilled in Canva and Google Suite.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Previous experience in communications or marketing (internships or volunteer work) is a plus but not required.
- A positive attitude and eagerness to learn are essential for success in this role. As well as a passion for female empowerment and making an impact on the world.
