As a
Shelter Advocate with A New Leaf’s Community Alliance Against Family Abuse (CAAFA) Program, you will provide vital support to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. In this role, you will be responsible for creating a safe, welcoming environment within the shelter, offering resources and assistance to help residents regain stability and independence. Key duties include crisis intervention, emotional support, guidance on available resources, and helping residents develop individualized safety plans. Hourly Pay Rate: $18
Location: Apache Junction, AZ (New Hire Orientation held at our HR Campus in Mesa, AZ)
PT Schedule: Friday & Saturday; 6am - 4pm + Sunday 6am - 3pm
Qualifications
Education:
- High School or GED required
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
- Bilingual verbally in Spanish, preferred.
Experience
- Experience working with domestic violence, homeless or economically disadvantaged population, preferred.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with trauma informed practices required.
- Knowledge of community resources.
Duties And Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Role model appropriate behaviors to callers and clients in the shelter, at all times, utilizing trauma informed principles and practices. Provide crisis intervention, domestic violence information, and resources and referral services to callers/clients at the shelter.
- Perform intake screenings, lethality assessments, and basic needs assessments for potential clients (as relevant to program/client needs). Provide supportive services to clients in shelter and assist case managers with client needs
- Establish/maintain client files and documentation; including, requesting paperwork, and filing all documentation in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
- Be responsible for issues relating to admission and discharge, in conjunction with the programs definition and policies as relevant to program/client needs.
- Access community resources to support the coordination of services for clients.
- Facilitate monthly groups as required by the program.
- Maintain the volunteer calendar and resident newsletter. Oversee volunteer group activities and provide program tours.
- Maintain ability to drive agency passenger van to transport clients and complete other duties, as needed and/or drive personal vehicle to conduct program business (mail runs, grocery shopping, etc.).
- Assist with organization and distribution of donations. Assist with inventory of supplies; including, but not limited to clothing, hygiene items, food, and office supplies.
- Communicate with hotel/motel and/or transportation agencies for client placement in Emergency Crisis Response (ECR) and convey information appropriately to law enforcement/placing agency as well as to CAAFA Outreach.
- Monitor security of the property through hourly ground checks. Be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
- Review all communication resources (emails, shift reports, logs, staff meeting notes, etc.) to stay up to date on milieu, structure, changes, events, and client/program needs.
