JOB SUMMARY:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting Summit’s overall communications and marketing strategy by informing, educating, and engaging both internal and external audiences.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Develop, distribute, and maintain educational and informative content for our external (customer) audiences, including website, blog, social media, newsletter.
Create content and communications for the purpose of informing our internal teams, as directed by leadership.
Collaborate with leadership team to create announcements for important employee news and updates—including content creation and messaging.
Research and stay abreast of trends related to the fire protection and life safety industry.
Strong focus on digital communications – website, newsletters, blog, social media, video.
Monitor and respond to online reviews, as a part of our online reputation strategy. Assist with reporting to management.
Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position and department’s objectives.
Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully; however, in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications.

Education, Training, Certifications:

Associate’s and/or bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field strongly preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:

3-5 years of relevant industry experience, preferred.
3-5 years of B2B and B2C experience, preferred.

Communication Skills:

Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees, customers, and board of directors. Many audiences must be considered, including alignment among multiple stakeholders.

Systems and Software Skills:

Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office, required.
Experience with using social media to promote a business, required.
Video production and photography experience, preferred.

Other Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, required.
Must be able to comply with Summit’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for long periods. Employee will occasionally be required to drive, bend, kneel, balance, lift <20lb, walk, stand, ascend/descend stairs, reach above and below shoulders, stoop, and twist.

Work Environment:

Employee will consistently be required to work indoors in an office or remote setting, work alone and with others. Employee will occasionally be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies. Employee will rarely be required to travel.
