Since 1977, Sojourner Center has been a safe haven from domestic violence for women and their children in Arizona. Since our founding, we have transformed lives by providing shelter and support services to more than 60,000 adults and children affected by domestic violence. We provide a broad spectrum of services to victims of domestic violence, while working with professionals in the field on education, research and advocacy with the goal of ending domestic violence.

Summary The Volunteer Manager is responsible for the strategic implementation and management of Sojourner Center’s Volunteer

Program including recruitment, orientation, training, tracking, recognition and retention of volunteers.

This position works closely with all programs to support staff and enhance programs & services. The Manager’s responsibilities include developing, planning, supervising and evaluating program services by ensuring mission-centered and strong community

partnerships and volunteer relationships. Ensures successful collaboration between all Sojourner Center staff and

departments to maximize service excellence. Ensures follow a trauma-informed approach and aligns with Sojourner

Center’s philosophy of care. Supports strong working relationships between support service and direct service functions.

Schedule Mon-Fri, 900am-500pm (some Saturdays may be needed)

Salary $45,000 - $50,000/annual

Essential Functions

Recruits and retains group and individual volunteers

Trains, equips, supports, and recognizes volunteers
Hosts volunteer orientation and trainings; plans additional trainings to enhance volunteer knowledge
Communicates regularly with volunteers, answering queries and scheduling appointments in a timely manner
Utilizes communication tools such as social media, volunteer newsletter and/or Volgistics outreach
Completes volunteer background checks and uses best practices when onboarding volunteers
Maintains volunteer files in accordance with funding and regulatory standards; tracks actions and pertinent

information in the Volgistics database

Routinely enters and reports volunteer hours and demographics; communicates interdepartmentally

regarding volunteer activities and projects

Develop, retain, and enhance a strategy to reduce the organization’s general operating costs by cultivating

volunteers to provide in-kind services through community partnerships and donations (increase revenue)

Accurate and timely reporting of volunteer hours and works with the finance team to ensure all volunteer

hours recorded properly as in-kind revenue

Strategically evaluates the volunteer program, based upon administration of volunteer and staff satisfaction

surveys and feedback

Works with Asst. Director of Community Engagement to plan internal and external events such as Trunk-orTreat, Holiday Program, Volunteer Recognition Event, and other fundraising and third party events
Represents and promotes awareness of Sojourner Center at public speaking, community outreach events and

networking groups in the community

Seeks professional groups and education for professional growth and knowledge of best practices.
Strategically evaluate the Volunteer Program, based on the administration of volunteer and staff satisfaction

surveys and feedback

Creates and maintains Volunteer Policies and procedures and trains staff on them as needed

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or associate’s degree in a related field and 2 years related experience; any combination of education and experience will be considered
Program management and operations experience, or equivalent experience
Ability to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card
Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of automobile insurance and Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to Sojourner

Center’s insurance company

Some travel between work locations may be required
Flexibility with schedule for volunteer activities may be required
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job including prolonged sitting, standing, walking,

reaching, stoop

Physical Factors/Working Conditions

Ability to work in an office setting.
Requires the use of a computer and other standard office equipment.
Travel between work locations and within the community required.
Flexibility in scheduling required (some evenings/weekends).
