Position Overview:

The Research and Program Assistant will support and report to the Director of Resiliency and Sustainability in advancing NOPEC’s sustainability initiatives. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about intersectionality work around climate action, energy management, and resilience. The candidate will contribute to research and program development towards the organization’s technical support pillar as part of NOPEC’s sustainability priorities. The candidate will also support communications, stakeholder engagement, and administrative tasks as required in the various regional and national advisory council and cohort responsibilities. The candidate will gain hands-on experience as the organization works toward its first Climate Action Plan, in 2025.

Who:

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, humble, detail-oriented, and proactive, with strong communication skills. They will assist with research on sustainability trends and best practices, supporting the Director in programmatic efforts, developing resource content for communities, writing blogs and newsletter articles on topics including, but not limited to, climate action and resiliency, circularity in planning, energy efficiency, energy education and other areas that align with NOPEC’s sustainability goals. The candidate will also contribute to community outreach efforts and assist in building partnerships that further NOPEC's mission. In addition to research and program development, the candidate will be responsible for select meeting coordination, managing stakeholder communications, and helping to prepare presentations for various engagements. Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel is essential, good understanding of UN SDG framework and indicators and an interdisciplinary thinking is highly valued.

Credentials:

Candidates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in fields of sustainability, energy management, energy engineering, urban planning, sustainable development, biomimicry, environmental policy, or sustainable marketing may find direct alignment to the role. This position presents a unique opportunity to learn and contribute to meaningful sustainability projects, with hands-on experience in the field.
