As the Assistant Director of the New York State Recreation and Park Society (NYSRPS), you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Executive Director in overseeing the organization's operations and strategic initiatives. You will collaborate closely with members, manage key projects, and ensure the smooth functioning of day-to-day activities. This role offers a blend of administrative task, member relations, and event management. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:

Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of NYSRPS's strategic plan, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
Operational Oversight: Provide leadership in managing the organization's operations, including budgeting, resource allocation, and performance evaluation. Support event logistic planning and venue proposals.
Marketing Support: Assist with website updates, newsletters, social media, and member relations. Help to manage the society’s newsletter, magazine, and other related materials.
Member Relations: Deliver timely, accurate information on benefits and services during member interactions and maintain records. Facilitate scheduling of board meetings and regional district program meetings.
Program Management: Oversee the implementation of programs and initiatives aimed at promoting recreation and park services across New York State.
Stakeholder Engagement: Builds and maintains a strong relationship with stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry partners.
Team Leadership: Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence among staff members, ensuring alignment with NYSRPS's mission and values.
Advocacy and Outreach: Represent NYSRPS in various forums and advocate for policies and funding that support the advancement of parks and recreation services.
Other: Assist in areas of association management as needed by the Executive Director.

Qualification Requirements:

Degree in a relevant field such as Public Administration, Recreation Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a leadership role, preferably. Experience within the parks and recreation sector, a non-profit organization, or a government agency is a plus.
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards achieving organizational goals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with experience in stakeholder engagement, public speaking, and advocacy.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours including early mornings and late nights as needed.
Mandatory in-person participation is necessary for events and meetings such as conferences, board meetings, and programs. Events occur at various locations throughout New York State with dates provided in advance.
Proficiency in Microsoft, Canva, Zoom, and Association Management software.
Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and ability to lift 40 pounds.

Desired Experience:

Proven track record of project management, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and drive results. Internal drive to succeed. Ability to work with limited supervision in a fully remote environment. Manage responsibilities accordingly and produce a successful outcome.
A true team orientation is essential in this role. The ability to demonstrate a positive work environment as a team as well as the ability to coherently lead project teams of volunteers.
Demonstrates a knowledge of non-profit association management along with knowledge of park and recreation management principles.
Familiarity with the legislative and regulatory landscape related to parks and recreation in New York State is highly desirable.
Ability to exemplify the highest ethical standards in professional and personal conduct.

Salary Information: $40,000 - $50,000
