Summary

The Marketing Coordinator plays a key role in enhancing the communication efforts of the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County through compelling storytelling, strategic public relations, and brand experience initiatives. This position is ideal for a creative self-starter who thrives in collaborative team settings, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and maintains a positive customer service mindset.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in producing engaging content for various social media platforms and media relations, with a passion for animal welfare. As a thoughtful and inclusive communicator, the Marketing Coordinator will effectively reach diverse audiences with tailored messages.

The Marketing Coordinator reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and works closely with the Digital Marketing Manager as a part of the Development and Marketing department.

Duties And Responsibilities

Coordinate and develop digital content across platforms, including website , blog , and both organic and paid social media.
Create and distribute marketing emails, including the shelter’s monthly e-newsletter, and collaborate with departments to produce a monthly newsletter for volunteers via Constant Contact. Support strategies to further the success of the organization's email marketing efforts.
Research and write content for various communication channels, including but not limited to, website blog stories, feature stories, and press releases.
Support the Director of Marketing and Communications in maintaining and building media relationships with local and national outlets, identifying and pitching story opportunities, and serving as a spokesperson for local on-camera and print interviews.
Maintain and grow weekly and monthly adoptable pet features and shelter initiatives with local media.
Capture high-quality photos and videos for use in social media, fundraisers, and other promotional materials.
Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager to create engaging social media content, including short- and long-form videos, to continue growing the shelter’s social media presence . Monitor social media platforms for popular trends and pursue new initiatives.
Edit and write marketing and fundraising digital and print materials.
Maintain and monitor the shelter’s online presence by responding to public inquiries and reviews promptly and professionally.
Disseminate internal communication updates to staff and volunteers.
Provide graphic design elements as needed.
Ensure communication-related tasks consistently align with the shelter’s branding guidelines and are suited for target audiences.
Assist with the planning of marketing and development campaigns .
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of three years of work experience in marketing and communications in a related industry.
Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university , or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of word processing, desktop publishing, web design software, client relationship management systems, and social media platforms. Proficient in photography, videography, and design. Experience with Microsoft Word, Constant Contact, WordPress, Hootsuite, Facebook Business & Ads Manager, and Excel.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong foundation in composing various communication materials. Significant experience in writing, editing, and proofreading copy for targeted audiences.
E ffective public speaker with advoca cy skills to articulate the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County’s mission. On-camera media experience a plus.
Knowledge of social media strategy, trends, and metrics. Experience with short- and long-form video content creation for social media is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others on the theme, design, and content of print, electronic, and web-based publications to maximize impact; develop and maintain communication plans for targeted audiences.
Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions and moderate to high noise levels.
Ability to listen, give, and receive feedback productively and professionally.
Willingness to embrace change positively and adapt strategies as needed.
Comfortable working in an animal care environment, handling dogs, cats, and various critters and including the ability to witness animals undergoing medical procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Speak, read, and write in the English language. Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills preferred, but not required .
Computer and typing skills.
Microsoft Office Suite.
Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro.
