Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Programs is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and implementation of BRPM’s Youth Summer Sessions and Adult Weekend Sessions programs. BRPM is seeking an energetic, dynamic, and collaborative Manager of Programs to join our team. The Manager of Programs will lead the evolution of our music-based week-long Summer Sessions for Youth and Weekend Sessions for Adults. In addition, they will have the opportunity to develop and implement special projects that have the potential to become new, ongoing programs.

The Manager will be responsible for all aspects of our programs, including the development of curriculum and programming, training and ongoing supervision of volunteers, recruitment and coordination of youth and adult participants, and managing the program budget. The ability to foster and enhance community relationships and partnerships is a crucial component of his role.

The Manager of Programs is designed to be a 40 hour-per-week, full-time position. From time to time, the Manager of Programs may have supervisor responsibilities for individual BRPM interns, fellows, or part-time staff.

Key Responsibilities:

PROGRAMMING: 80%

The Manager of Programs is independently responsible for the program curriculum and implementation of BRPM’s Youth Summer Sessions and Adult Weekend Sessions. In 2024, Youth Summer Sessions are expected to serve 70+ youth each year, and Adult Weekend Sessions to serve 50+ adults. Each session is also expected to require 30 - 35 volunteers for full participant support.

For both Youth Summer Sessions and Adult Weekend Sessions, the Manager of Programs is responsible for:

Positive relationships with youth, families, and adult participants, including recruiting participants for each new program session, ensuring application processes actively promote DEI, and creating an inclusive culture in the session community.
Actively managing program participant and volunteer capacity to ensure maximum enrollment and full volunteer support for each program session
Program curriculum, including adapting program and session content to the needs of the participants and in line with other BRPM program curriculum updates
Program staffing structure, including volunteer and youth leadership roles and the recruitment, training, and supervision of all volunteers
Execution of program sessions, consistently and with a high degree of quality, including ensuring sessions have all of the food, materials, gear, and other equipment needed to effectively deliver the program
Assessment of program effectiveness and impact, including regular execution of program evaluations, documentation and sharing of assessments, and where appropriate, adapting programs to increase impact on youth and community. This also includes creating written materials describing the program activities, participants, volunteers and impact to be shared with funders.
Developing and maintaining key partnerships and relationships related to session programs, including The Record Co., ONCE, individual food vendors and in-kind partners, local musicians and gender justice leaders, and other community partners. This includes ensuring program contracts are effectively executed as required by any program partners.
Proactively identifying and suggesting new opportunities for BRPM to expand or increase its impact through Youth Summer Sessions, Adult Sessions, and other community-centered program opportunities
Development of and management of program expense budget, in collaboration with the Executive Director. This includes helping to determine appropriate tuition fees and income for each session in collaboration with the Executive Director.

COMMUNICATIONS: 20%

The Manager of Programs works closely with BRPM’s Social Media Coordinator to provide a cohesive and clear story of our program offerings and events for BRPM’s social media channels. The Manager of Programs will also be responsible for coordinating specific outreach to participants and volunteers through email correspondence and Mailchimp newsletters. The Social media and communications responsibilities include:

Create engaging newsletter campaigns, using MailChimp that keep participants, parents, and volunteers informed about our current and upcoming program sessions.
Coordinate social media posts for programs-related content to ensure information about current programming, participant and volunteer recruitment opportunities, and Session Showcase events are clearly communicated and distributed to BRPM’s community and the public.
Ensure a consistent BRPM presence across communication channels, collaborating with the Executive Director and Social Media Coordinator on cross-channel communication campaigns

Summary of Responsibilities

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating youth programming or other relevant experience
Highly motivated with ability to prioritize, self-direct work, attend to multiple projects with overlapping deadlines, and complete projects in a timely manner
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with groups of stakeholders for recruitment, coordination, and training purposes.
Highly developed skills in planning, organizing, and attention to detail
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and execute tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a team setting and value a supportive and collaborative work environment
2-3 years of experience in education, youth programming, music education or equivalent related experience.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Experience with developing music curriculum including and an understanding of best practices for music education across age ranges, instruments, and skill levels.
Experience working with Adult Learners
Familiarity with Google Suite

Reports to: Executive Director

Time Commitment, Schedule, Working Conditions: Full Time Employee, Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 preferred, schedule may be negotiated. Ability to work nights, weekends and full week/weekend sessions when requested or required. Staff is currently working remotely, with sessions being in-person.

Salary: $52,000 - $55,000; commensurate with experience
